Title
Pivotal Response Training For Autism Children


Abstract
Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder will engage virtual applications that provide interaction based on Pivotal Response Treatment to increased levels of social behaviour.

Goal

1. What is the goal of the whole application?
   To help Autistic children increased level of social behaviour.


2. What is the application trying to solve? (problem statement)
   Autism person cannot be recognise by looking at them. No one “looks” autistic. When a person is autistic, it just means their brain works differently. Most kids with autism are good at some things but have to work harder at others like normal kids that maybe well in sports but is afraid of public speaking. Everyone has things they’re good at, and things they have to work harder at. One way that brains can be different is that some people have an autism spectrum disorder. 

   Normal person tend to misunderstood autism action like spinning around for a long time, flapping their arms, jumping up and down a lot, or rocking back and forth. Those repetitive activities are called stims, and they’re doing it because it feels good, or it’s relaxing, or its fun, or as a way to block out too much noise around them. They also tend to have trouble with facial expressions. Kids with autism won’t know how you’re feeling just by looking at your face. Also, sometimes their facial expressions won’t match how they’re actually feeling. Often, if your friend with autism doesn’t seem to have any expression on her face, it just means she’s still thinking about something. If you’re not sure how someone is feeling, you need to ask them.

   Individuals with Autism are individuals. Just like other people are little different, all people with autism are also different. If you met a kid with red hair who really likes Transformers, you wouldn’t expect every person with red hair to really like Transformers. It’s the same thing with autism. Not every autistic person likes the same stuff, is good at the same things, or has a hard time with the same things. They’re individuals just like you’re an individual.

   This is what the application is trying to solve. Autistic children have problems with socialization.  With the virtual applications, we want to motivate Autistic children to talk and communicate with their peer, parents and their siblings. We want them to think it is fun to communicate and it is fun to use their language.

  3.  What is the advantage of VR that can be exploited to enhance project?
   This interactive application would attract Autistic children to use it as it will be more fun and attractive. The advantages are also to give safety to Autistic children and people around them.

 4.  Is this project new or has it been created before? If yes, why are you doing it again?
   Documentaries, animated series of social skills for kids, applications on android and Apple, Web-Based Software, videos and movie related to Autism have been made. I also wanted to contribute a virtual application for Autism children for their treatment.

Objectives
·         To attract Autistic children to use the virtual applications through virtual environment and interaction
·         To teach Autistic children based on Pivotal Response Training in virtual environment through interaction
·         To allow Autistic children apply on what their learn  in a virtual environment and interact with it

Description
  Level 1: It will be attractive with colours where children are taught how to use the virtual applications. They also will be given choices on what they like to learn. User will see the animation and also interaction with pop-up menu.
Level 2: Then users will move on to learn about things and will be based on Pivotal Response Treatment research.
Level 3: After that, users will apply their knowledge in a virtual test and will be rewarded with collections of what they like.

  User will be using controller/keyboard and view through PC screen or Oculus Rift.

   To give awareness based on research about Autism Spectrum Disorder to users in order to make user be more knowledgeable on how Autism works and how we could be more understanding.

Virtual awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorder could leave people with an impact on how their see a person who act differently and recognize them as autistic person.

3.  What is the advantage of VR that can be exploited to enhance project?
   This interactive application would allow users to see the behaviours of the Autism person. Not all people are aware of this disorder. The possibilities to reduce the misunderstood autistic person could now be offered with virtual reality applications. The advantages is also normal people would not be harm if Autistic person is out of control as user will experience it in virtual. This application intends to give normal person experience in a virtual reality application that is designed based on studies of Autism Spectrum Disorder.

 4.  Is this project new or has it been created before? If yes, why are you doing it again?
   Documentaries, animated series of social skills for kids, videos and movie related to Autism have been made, but then again, they’re all non-interactive. Example movie related to Autism like My Name Is Khan, Extremely Loud Incredibly Close and Chocolate. However, there are some who vehemently oppose the portrayal of those with autism in film and television when it’s not done with complete accuracy.

  Applications that have similar kinds of interaction with other disorder have been made like Stuttering Awareness Game, but there are still no records of a virtual application that promote Autism Spectrum Disorder. So this is the reason I’m continuing doing this projects.

The Modern Alchemist


Abstract
Start with a basic element like water, air, earth and fire to create another element. For example when combining water and air you will get rain. All the alchemy will be in a modern laboratory.  


Target Audience
Children and young adult


Goal
The goal of this application is to improve creativity as users need to think of the possible element that can be combine to create a new element.
 It also helps users to develop interest in chemistry. This is because users will be experience alchemy that contributed to the development of modern chemistry and medicine.
The virtual application will allow the user to understand more about element. User will be able to interact with the pictograph that brings the meanings behind each element and how it was made and other information.


Objectives
-      To immerse the user through realistic visual and audio effects
-      To understand different element and combine to create new element
-      To allow user to develop creativity and interest of chemistry through VR application

Description

  On the starting page before the user starts the VR application, there will be a brief introduction of the application and also a list of instruction on how the user can navigate and interact with the objects within the environment.
  User will be given four basic element and continue to combine among it to get a new element. The element will be view in 3D with audio and also the meaning of the element. Users will drag one element with another element to create new element. If wrong element combines, there will be failed notifications. If all elements have been found, user will receive achievement.
  The applications will be using Oculus Rift, leap motion and headphones.

  The goal of this application is to allow user to experience a journey where users depends on their hearing like a blind people. It also will help the sense of navigation through sound.
  VR technologies help normal people to have the awareness of how blind people use their sense to move around.
